MED-EL Advanced Hearing Solutions
MED-EL Advanced Hearing Solutions
MED-EL is the global innovation leader in hearing loss solutions, helping restore hearing to more than 200,000 individuals in more than 120 countries worldwide. Recognizing that no hearing solutions are one-size-fits-all, MED-EL provides custom solutions for each individual.
The focus of MED-EL is on developing new methods of processing sound for their cochlear implants, evaluating speech reception, speech quality, and psychophysical stimulus, like loudness or pitch. Researchers also use highly sophisticated technology to test new algorithms and strategies that take advantage of the capabilities of the implanted components but are not yet possible on the current generation of our commercial devices.
Extensive research by MED-EL leads to the development of leading-edge hearing solutions to address the unique hearing challenges of every individual.
MED-EL’s Implant Systems
Four hearing system implants, which include multiple configuration options, provide the most effective treatment for specific types of hearing loss, including:
Traditional Cochlear Implants
A traditional cochlear implant that bypasses damaged hair cells and sends electrical signals to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound. Includes a choice of an externally worn audio processor that detects sounds and sends them to the internal implant, which is placed just under the skin behind the ear.
Electric Acoustic Stimulation Implants
EAS implants use cochlear implant technology along with acoustic amplification. The microphones of the audio processor detect low-pitched sounds, which are amplified and then sent through the earmold to the ear canal. However, the high-pitched sounds are sent to the implant directly into the cochlea.
Bone Conduction Implants
These implants are inserted beneath the skin to transmit sound directly to the bones surrounding the inner ear but donot include an electrode into the cochlea. Processed sounds have a natural sound quality because sound vibrations are sent directly to the inner ear bypassing outer ear and middle ear issues.
Bone Conduction System
Often referred to as bone conduction hearing aids, MED-EL’s bone conduction system uses the latest generation sound processor that transmits sound signals to a non-implanted bone conduction device stuck to the skin behind your ear.
